McLeod Cooperative Power, established in 1935, is a member-owned electric cooperative serving more than 6,000 residents, businesses, and farms in McLeod, Renville, Sibley, and Carver Counties in Minnesota. The cooperative is committed to providing reliable and affordable electricity while prioritizing the needs of its members.
Approximately 95 percent of the electricity supplied by McLeod Co-op Power is sourced from Great River Energy (GRE), a generation and transmission cooperative that has met Minnesota’s renewable energy standard ahead of schedule. GRE aims to provide 50 percent renewable energy by 2030, reflecting a commitment to sustainable practices. The other 5 percent of electricity is obtained from the Western Area Power Administration (WAPA), which emphasizes the distribution of clean, renewable, and reliable hydroelectric power.
McLeod Co-op Power also emphasizes community involvement and member services. The cooperative offers home visits to new members to help familiarize them with the various programs, services, and products available to them. These visits are an opportunity for new members to ask questions about the co-op's offerings and receive guidance on managing their electric bills.
Annual meetings are held to engage members in governance, where they can elect representatives to the Board of Directors and discuss important issues affecting the cooperative and its community. The cooperative also provides various energy-efficient products, electricity rate assistance programs, and educational resources to aid members in making informed energy choices.
Beyond electricity, McLeod Co-op Power is committed to community outreach, participating in initiatives such as youth programs and scholarships. They have been awarded for their contributions with the Touchstone Energy Community Award, signifying their role in fostering community development.
