NTACO, also known as Nashville Tent and Awning Company, has a rich history that dates back to 1884 when it was originally founded as Southern Canvas. This Nashville-based business started its journey by crafting high-quality tents, awnings, tarps, and other canvas-related products, catering to the local community. In the early 1900s, H.G. Husband became a key figure in the company after relocating from Montana, eventually acquiring ownership and transforming it into Nashville Tent and Awning, with a focus on producing military-grade tents for the Army during World War I.
As Nashville expanded, so did the company. In the mid-20th century, NTACO grew further through the acquisition of Perma Shade Awning and Venetian Blinds, necessitating several relocations to accommodate increasing demands. In 1987, they settled at 1301 Herman Street, where the business thrived until 2022, when it transitioned to its current location at 1727 Elm Hill Pike under the fourth-generation leadership of the Husband family.
