Retro Restoration LLC is a specialized company dedicated to the restoration and repair of vintage campers, particularly known for their expertise in the "canned ham" style trailers from the 1940s to the mid-1960s. Founded in 2004 by Larry Hill, a former electrical engineer and lifelong classic car collector, the business initially began as a hobby in Albuquerque, NM. However, it quickly gained popularity, prompting Larry to establish a more robust foundation for the business.
In 2006, Larry co-founded the Southwest Vintage Camper Association, fostering a community that celebrates vintage camping culture. In pursuit of both personal and professional dreams, he relocated Retro Restoration to Erie, CO, in 2008, where he met Sylvia Davids, his future partner in both life and business. Together, they fulfilled their aspiration of owning a vintage trailer park by buying the Starlite Classic Campground near Canon City, CO, in 2010. Although Retro Restoration was briefly closed to focus on the campground, the demand for trailer restoration and Larry's passion for the craft led to its reopening in early 2014 at a new location in Canon City.
Retro Restoration is a small, personalized operation where clients receive direct interaction with Larry throughout the restoration process. The company not only takes in locally sourced projects but also caters to clients nationwide, utilizing the internet for seamless communication and progress updates. They offer a broad range of services, including full restorations, custom designs, and partial restoration work on various types of vintage campers and motorhomes.
As of January 1, 2021, due to overwhelming demand, Retro Restoration has announced that they are fully booked for over a year and currently not taking new projects. The company also recently expanded its offerings to include concession trailer conversions, showcasing their adaptability in a growing market. With a commitment to quality craftsmanship and a passion for vintage trailers, Retro Restoration LLC remains a key player in the vintage camper restoration movement.
